Uncrewed aerial vehicle company Orbital UAV has secured a $3.5 million second-stage engineering contract with a major Singapore customer, following the successful delivery of three prototype engine systems delivered in 2021.

Orbital UAV and its Singapore-based customer signed the first memorandum of understanding in March 2020 for the design, development, and integration of multi-fuel UAV engines.

The latest Design & Development and Verification & Validation contract will involve the execution of further engineering work and the delivery of three more prototype engine systems in fiscal year 2023.

Subject to the successful delivery of the contract’s requirements, Orbital and its client have agreed on a timeline for the delivery of production-quality engine systems beginning in 2024.

“We are delighted to move this significant program into the next stage of development,” said Todd Alder, CEO and managing director of Orbital UAV.

In a media statement, Alder said the contract positions Orbital to enter new geographic markets and tap into growth potential in the mid-term.

“This contract demonstrates the material progress we have achieved with our prestigious Singapore customer and our broader customer diversification strategy. We look forward to delivering this phase of the program over the next 12 months and taking the next step towards production,” Alder added.

The latest contract is effective from July 2022.
