The Penrith Return and Earn Depot will relocate next month, with the current site on Coreen Avenue set to close on 31 May before reopening at a new warehouse in Emu Plains on 9 June, according to Return and Earn.
Operated by Vinnies NSW, the depot has served the Penrith community for nearly seven years and supported the return of close to 110 million drink containers. Return and Earn said the site has also helped residents, schools, charities, sporting clubs and businesses earn container refunds while contributing to environmental outcomes and local employment.
Phil Coyte from Vinnies NSW said the relocation is intended to support the depot’s continued role in the community.
“This depot has grown alongside the Penrith community. We’ve seen families come through, community groups fundraise and locals take pride in doing the right thing for the environment,” he said.
He added that the new site at Emu Plains would improve capacity while maintaining its local focus. “Moving to Emu Plains allows us to continue that work in a space that better supports the volume of containers returned, while staying close to the community that has made this depot what it is.”
Return and Earn network operator TOMRA Cleanaway said it welcomed the transition. CEO James Dorney said the relocation reflects the program’s ongoing community impact. “We’re pleased to see the depot continue its journey with a new home in Emu Plains, maintaining the strong community connections it has built over time,” he said.
He added that the depot demonstrates broader benefits of the scheme. “The work Vinnies NSW does through this depot shows how Return and Earn can deliver environmental outcomes while also creating local jobs and supporting communities,” he said.
Residents have been encouraged to plan container returns around the temporary closure period, with the new Emu Plains depot scheduled to open on 9 June 2026. Return and Earn said further information is available through its website.
