AECOM this week appointed two new Industry Directors and promoted nearly 500 team members across Australia and New Zealand, as it experiences rapid growth in demand for decarbonisation and digital services.

Chief Executive – Australia New Zealand, Richard Barrett said, “These promotions recognise the depth of technical excellence that exists across our company and bolster career progression across critical areas of our business.”

Industry Directors are the most senior technical professionals at AECOM, highly sought after, and responsible for delivery in the most technically complex and challenging of client assignments. Richard Morrison, based in Sydney, has been appointed Industry Director – Technology Advisory APAC, and John Fanstone, in Melbourne, has been appointed Industry Director – Rail.

John Fanstone has led multiple project teams in developing digital and ESG-focused initiatives in the rail sector – including Melbourne’s Rail Infrastructure Alliance project where the team used digital tools to enhance project productivity, safety and collaboration and worked to encourage continuous improvement in these critical areas. A renowned major project specialist, John has led multi-disciplinary teams in demanding, fast-track programs for more than 25 years in Australia and globally, including Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel, Preston Tram Depot, Regional Rail Link, Manchester Metro, East London Line, and Taiwan’s High-Speed Rail project.

Richard Morrison leads AECOM’s Information Communications Technology (ICT) and Security consulting group for Australia and New Zealand. With 20 years of experience as a computer systems engineer, Richard is an experienced IT management professional who leads a complete technology and security advisory services team focused on delivering exceptional client outcomes and engagement. Richard is also a Director of BICSI South Pacific, a global not-for-profit association supporting designers and installers of information systems across government and the real estate sectors.

Richard Barrett, Chief Executive, AECOM Australia New Zealand, said, “Congratulations to John and Richard and all of our recently promoted employees. Engineers and technical specialists are vital as we focus on how we can decarbonise, digitise, and embed ESG considerations into all aspects of our economy and built environment to deliver a better world. Our Directors play an important role in leading quality, innovation and elevating technical excellence to support our clients with the many aspects of this transition.”
