Top manufacturing performers recognised at Weld Australia’s 2025 Excellence Awards

Weld Australia has announced the winners of its 2025 Victoria & Tasmania Welding Excellence Awards, highlighting standout achievements that the organisation says are strengthening Australia’s manufacturing and fabrication capability. 

The annual awards ceremony, held in Melbourne, brought together welding professionals, educators, and industry leaders from across both states, as revealed in a news release. 

Weld Australia said the Awards recognise the individuals, companies, and projects driving improvement in quality, safety, and innovation across the manufacturing sector. 

According to Weld Australia CEO Geoff Crittenden, this year’s recipients reflect a profession that is modernising while maintaining its core focus on precision and craftsmanship.

“Our winners are not only delivering outstanding technical outcomes, they’re fostering growth, sustainability, and a culture of continuous improvement,” Crittenden said. 

“These Awards celebrate more than achievement. They recognise the people shaping the next generation of Australia’s manufacturing excellence.”

Crittenden added that the calibre of nominees demonstrates the strength of the sector. “The calibre of nominees this year reflects a sector that’s embracing change while staying true to the principles of skill, safety and precision.”

Acciona was named Company of the Year – Fabrication, with Weld Australia noting the company’s investment in sustainable infrastructure manufacturing, Industry 4.0 technologies and workforce development. 

Weld Australia said AGL Bioenergy’s delivery of four high-capacity biogas flare systems – requiring more than 55 tonnes of steel fabrication – earned it the Victorian Project of the Year.

Weld Australia also recognised Incat with the Tasmanian Project of the Year Award for Hull 096, described by the organisation as the world’s largest battery-electric ship. The project involved fabrication of more than 900 tonnes of marine-grade aluminium.

Steel Mains received Weld Australia’s Health and Safety in Welding Award for initiatives that enhance workplace safety and reduce manual handling risks, while SPW was named Company of the Year – Supplier for its national network and strong engagement with apprentices, TAFEs and local industries.

Ringwood Training and TAFE Gippsland were jointly recognised by Weld Australia for the Victorian Training and Education Award (Organisation), with TasTAFE winning the Tasmanian equivalent for its statewide training programs in metals and manufacturing.

Several individuals were also honoured, including recipients of the Welding Professional of the Year Awards across Victoria and Tasmania. 

Weld Australia named Reuben Joiner of Service Stream as Young Trades Person of the Year, citing his technical achievement and industry involvement, while Uneek Bending’s Jimmy Abbott was named Trades Person of the Year for more than 50 years of contribution to welding and fabrication.
