Manufacturing is set to expand at Yatala on Queensland’s Gold Coast, with Modscape + Modbotics marking the start of construction of a new 50,000-square-metre advanced manufacturing facility.

The company held a sod-turning ceremony to mark the milestone, following development approval for the site and the appointment of CIP Constructions as the project’s construction partner.

Once completed, the purpose-built facility is expected to support the production of volumetric and panelised construction across Queensland and Northern New South Wales, with projected capacity of about 2,000 modules a year once fully operational, the company said in a news release.

“Breaking ground at Yatala is a significant milestone for our business and our future in Queensland,” Modscape + Modbotics CEO Jan Gyrn said.

“More than a new facility, it’s an investment in people and capability. It gives us the permanent base we need to grow our local team, further industrialise construction in Queensland, and deliver high-quality buildings faster, with greater certainty, and at a scale we simply couldn’t achieve before.”

The development is being delivered by Frasers Property Industrial, which progressed development approval and is constructing the purpose-built premises.

“We are proud to be delivering a facility of this scale and ambition for Modscape + Modbotics at Yatala, and to support the continued growth of advanced manufacturing in the region,” Frasers Property Industrial General Manager Queensland Troy Whalan said.

The Yatala site was selected following a site selection process across South East Queensland, with the company citing its scale, sustainability initiatives, connectivity and location. The project has also received support through Invest Gold Coast’s Investment Attraction Program.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the project represented confidence in the city’s potential as an advanced manufacturing location.

“Modscape + Modbotics choosing to build a facility of this scale at Yatala is a powerful vote of confidence in our city as a destination for advanced manufacturing,” Tate said.

The facility is expected to support about 700 jobs, including approximately 400 construction positions and 300 ongoing roles, according to the companies.

Invest Gold Coast CEO Mark Girard said the investment would contribute to the region’s manufacturing base.

“This investment will strengthen our local manufacturing ecosystem, create high-value jobs and support the delivery of cutting-edge construction solutions across Queensland and beyond,” Girard said.

Modscape + Modbotics has operated in Queensland for more than a decade and has delivered more than 600 projects nationally over 20 years. Its first Queensland manufacturing facility opened in Helensvale before the company moved to a larger facility in Archerfield in 2025.

The Yatala facility is expected to become operational from mid-2027.
