Brisbane-based towbar manufacturer Speedy Towbars Group will invest in new advanced manufacturing technology after securing more than $266,000 through the Queensland Government’s Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Grants Program.
The company designs, fabricates, assembles and fits towing products for passenger and light commercial vehicles, with the grant funding to be used for a robotic welding machine, plasma cutting system and testing machine.
According to the Queensland Government, the investment is expected to increase the company’s production capacity and quality consistency, while creating 12 new jobs and supporting the upskilling of its workforce.
Queensland Manufacturing Minister Dale Last said Speedy Towbars was among 18 manufacturers to receive funding from the first $12.5 million round of the program, with seven successful recipients based in south-east Queensland.
“To have 119 companies apply for the first round is a vote of confidence in our vision to supercharge innovation, lift productivity, support export opportunities and create good, secure jobs right across Queensland,” Last said.
The Queensland Government said the successful projects are expected to create more than 300 jobs and contribute to the upskilling of more than 550 existing workers. The recipients span industries including food and beverage, skincare, construction, resources and medical manufacturing.
“Speedy Towbars is a perfect example of Queensland manufacturing excellence and know-how making a mark right around the country,” Last said.
Speedy Towbars Group co-owner Jordan Rand said the funding would support the company’s plans to expand while continuing to manufacture in Queensland.
“Securing this grant will allow us to make a significant investment in advanced manufacturing technology that will improve our productivity, increase capacity, and enhance the quality and consistency of our products,” Rand said.
“As a proudly Queensland-based manufacturer, we’re excited about the opportunity to strengthen our position in the national market while creating new jobs and developing the skills of our workforce.”
