BAE Systems Australia bags $155m Navy Destroyer contract

BAE Systems Australia has secured a $155 million contract to equip the Australian Navy’s Hobart Class Destroyer fleet with sovereign sustainment capability. 

Under the six-year contract, BAE Systems will serve as the Capability Life Cycle Manager for each of the Navy’s three Hobart-class Destroyers— HMAS Hobart, HMAS Brisbane, and HMAS Sydney. 

The BAE Systems team will operate from the existing Destroyer Enterprise facilities based at the Royal Australian Navy’s Fleet Base East in Sydney. 

The contract amid a critical time for naval fleet sustainment in Australia as the industry transitions to the Future Maritime Sustainment Model, guided by the vision of the government’s Plan Galileo. 

The plan seeks to ensure that existing and new naval fleets can be effectively sustained and deployed rapidly from strategic locations across Australia, BAE said in a statement issued Thursday

“Our established team has deep knowledge of the Hobart Class Destroyer and will deliver a proven Enterprise and collaborative approach that focuses on dependable delivery today and innovative ways of sustaining the class into the future.

Boosting Australia’s industry capability is a critical element of the approach for future sustainment undertaken by BAE Systems Australia and its partners. 

“This is another example of how BAE Systems Australia is helping to deliver the next generation of naval capability to and building local industry to help keep Australia secure,” Lockhart added.
