The Hazer-KBR Alliance has secured a paid study with a leading Japanese power generation and energy utility to assess the potential integration and deployment of Hazer’s methane pyrolysis technology in Japan, according to Hazer.

Under the agreement, the alliance will undertake a pre-feasibility study examining hydrogen production capacities of 30,000 and 300,000 tonnes per annum and how the technology could be integrated into the customer’s power generation portfolio. The study is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

In an ASX announcement, Hazer said the agreement is the first KBR-led commercial engagement secured since the completion of its commercial Process Design Package in April 2026.

The company said the deal demonstrates the alliance’s ability to convert commercial marketing activity into paid customer studies.

“This is a large-scale opportunity with a strategic customer that underscores the potential for Hazer technology to be deployed at significant commercial scale,” Hazer CEO and Managing Director Glenn Corrie said.

Corrie said the study also demonstrated “the growing commercial momentum of the partnership” and the potential application of Hazer’s technology across the Japanese market.

Hazer said Japan remains a strategically important market for the company, citing demand for low-emissions hydrogen and the country’s focus on energy security and decarbonisation. Its position in the market was also recently strengthened by the grant of a key patent by the Japanese Patent Office.

The study will be delivered under common industry terms, with Hazer expecting revenue of approximately A$65,000 from the initial phase.
