KONGSBERG Australia says its Mawson Lakes facility in South Australia has achieved Platinum certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v4.1 Building Design and Construction: New Construction category.

In a media release, the company said the certification, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, represents what it described as the latest and most rigorous global benchmark for high-performance, environmentally sustainable buildings.

It added that the council’s global project directory indicates the Mawson Lakes site is among the first ten buildings worldwide to receive LEED v4.1 BD+C: New Construction certification at the Platinum level.

KONGSBERG Australia said achieving Platinum status, the highest certification level, reflects performance across areas including energy efficiency, emissions reduction, water conservation, responsible material use, and occupant wellbeing.

The company noted that only a relatively small proportion of projects globally reach this level.

“Being the first in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere to achieve LEED Platinum certification for this category is a significant milestone for KONGSBERG Australia,” said Simon Ridgway, Director Operations South Australia.

“It reflects our commitment not only to supporting the Australian Defence Force with world-leading capability, but also to doing so in a way that minimises environmental impact and supports long-term sustainability.”

The company described the certification as setting a benchmark for sustainable infrastructure within the Australian defence industry, while positioning the Mawson Lakes facility among a limited group of globally recognised high-performance buildings.
