GBP K.K. has announced plans to establish a domestic manufacturing and product development facility in Yamaguchi City, Japan, aimed at expanding its capacity for renewable energy components and responding to evolving regulatory requirements.
In a news release, the company said the site, spanning approximately 50,000 square metres, will integrate product development, manufacturing, quality assurance and certification support functions. Operations are scheduled to begin in phases from May 2026, with full-scale operations targeted for 2027.
According to GBP K.K., the development is intended to strengthen its domestic supply chain while addressing rising demand for replacement components in solar repowering projects across Japan, Europe and Australia.
The company said the facility was intended to strengthen domestic supply chain capabilities while supporting growing demand for replacement and upgrade components in solar repowering projects.
The announcement comes as solar installations in several markets enter repowering cycles, increasing demand for compatible equipment such as solar components, power conditioning systems and interconnection hardware. At the same time, cybersecurity requirements for connected energy systems are tightening.
In Japan, the JC-STAR cybersecurity labelling scheme, introduced in 2025, is expected to become a requirement for grid connection eligibility for certain solar and battery storage systems from 2027, initially applying to high- and medium-voltage projects before expanding further. GBP K.K. said similar regulatory developments are also being observed in Europe and Australia.
The company said the facility was intended to support both domestic and international customers, including EPC contractors, independent power producers and asset owners, by providing locally manufactured components with standardised certification documentation and shorter lead times.
The Yamaguchi facility will focus on solar generation components, battery storage systems and electrical interconnection products, including solutions compatible with existing installations. GBP K.K. said its experience with third-party certification, including JET certification for high-voltage aluminium cables in 2025, will support the rollout.
Production at the Yamaguchi facility is set to roll out in stages from May 2026, with key product lines coming online 2026 and full-scale operations planned for 2027.
GBP K.K. added the facility is expected to serve both domestic and international customers, including EPC contractors, independent power producers and asset owners, by offering shorter lead times and standardised certification.
