Kongsberg Defence Australia has obtained its initial export order for the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Coastal Defence System (CDS) command and control consoles.
The order, awarded last month, will create up to 30 new jobs at Kongsberg Defence Australia’s facility in South Australia and within its local supply chain, the company said in a news release.
The NSM CDS command and control console is based on the NASAMS air defence console, which is already in service with the Australian Army.
These consoles share common hardware, with components and subsystems to be manufactured by local companies, including REDARC Defence & Space, Eylex, and QPE Advanced Machining.
Assembly and testing of the consoles will take place at Kongsberg’s recently opened production and maintenance facility in Mawson Lakes, South Australia.
John Fry, managing director of Kongsberg Defence Australia, expressed his pride in securing the export contract.
“This major export contract, awarded last month, is a huge milestone for Kongsberg Defence Australia. Together with our Australian suppliers, we have demonstrated our determination and competitiveness to be able to deliver to an international NSM CDS customer,” Fry said.
“This will also be our first export under the Commonwealth’s Global Supply Chain Program, so creating opportunities in the international market for our local suppliers is a fantastic outcome.”
Erin Hamblin, Global Supply Chain Program Manager for Kongsberg Defence Australia, highlighted the importance of local partnerships.
“This announcement is a great example of primes such as Kongsberg Defence Australia building local supply chains by working with Australian industry to provide high technology capabilities for delivery to international customers,” Hamblin stated.
The mobilisation of the supply chain for the production of the NSM CDS consoles will begin immediately, with deliveries scheduled for 2026.
This delivery forms part of a larger CDS contract signed between Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Poland.
