Australian technology companies M2M Connectivity and ARQ Group have launched a new partnership to deliver digital twin technology in Australia.

Backed by M2M’s parent company Sierra Wireless™, the partnership will focus on creating digital twin solutions for major sectors including manufacturing, agriculture and mining.

The partnership draws on the experience of both organisations utilising ARQ’s consultancy services and expertise delivering digital, data and cloud solutions – combined with M2M Connectivity’s expertise in IT network design, devices, and connectivity.

M2M and ARQ plan to utilise Sierra Wireless’ Octave™, all-in-one IoT platform, to build cloud-based solutions built on Amazon’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure platforms.

The partnership was announced in the first of three online industry events jointly hosted by M2M, Sierra Wireless and ARQ on 24 February. The aim is to encourage the uptake of digital twin technology, which M2M and ARQ believe can significantly increase efficiency and the cost of machinery and asset maintenance.

“Digital twin technology has been proven in markets including the US and Canada, but it is still in its infancy in the Australian market,” says James Litjens, Associate Director Emerging Technologies, at ARQ Group.

“One of the key barriers to adoption is the perception that digital twins are reserved for major corporations with deep pockets, like NASA or Australia Post, but this is no longer the case. We believe that the Octave platform can provide Australian industry with an easy point of entry – enabling manufacturers to better monitor their assets and make more informed investment decisions when it comes to hardware and infrastructure.”

Sierra Wireless’ Octave solution has been deployed by industrial companies around the world including Thermigas, who have used the solution’s predictive capabilities to guarantee the reliability of their industrial water heaters – used by its customers to process food, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

“Octave has been adopted by manufacturers around the globe seeking to ‘disruption proof’ their businesses,” says Benoit Tournier, Marketing Director – Mobile IoT Solutions, at Sierra Wireless.

“We believe that by creating a digital twin, you are gaining access to the richest real-time data which allows you to predict asset failure or plan for when maintenance might be needed. This is critical to reducing down time and keeping production operational,” Benoit adds.

To introduce their partnership to the market, M2M and ARQ will be hosting a series of industry-focused webinars seeking to raise awareness and increase the uptake of digital twin technology, delivered using Octave, over the coming months.
