A manufacturing-focused partnership between WEG S.A. and SpinDrive aims to deliver a new generation of oil-free electric motor systems integrating active magnetic bearing technology for industrial applications.
Announced at Hannover Messe 2026 in Hannover, the companies said the collaboration will combine WEG’s global manufacturing and distribution capabilities with SpinDrive’s active magnetic bearing (AMB) systems and built-in IoT condition monitoring.
The result is intended to be a maintenance-free drive solution designed to meet evolving industrial efficiency and sustainability requirements.
According to the companies, the integration of AMB technology into WEG’s electric motor portfolio is expected to improve operational efficiency and reliability while eliminating the need for oil-based systems.
The partners said the approach could also support industrial decarbonisation efforts by reducing energy losses and lifecycle emissions.
The companies stated that AMBs enable higher rotational speeds and increased power density, allowing for more compact motor designs suited to space-constrained installations. They added that the embedded IoT monitoring capability would provide continuous performance tracking, supporting predictive maintenance and reducing downtime.
The partnership is expected to target a range of industrial applications, including compressors, blowers, turbines, pumps, turbomachinery and high-speed spindles, particularly in environments where oil contamination must be avoided or where reliability and efficiency requirements are stringent.
Rodrigo Fumo, vice president of Industrial Motors at WEG, said the agreement aligns with the company’s broader manufacturing strategy. “The partnership with SpinDrive reinforces WEG’s strategy to accelerate industrial decarbonization through more efficient and technologically advanced solutions,” he said.
“By combining SpinDrive’s expertise in active magnetic bearings with our global electric motor portfolio, we are taking an important step toward increasing energy efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and supporting our customers on their journey toward more sustainable operations.”
SpinDrive chief executive Janne Heikkinen described the agreement as a significant step for the company.
“Teaming up with WEG is a transformational step for SpinDrive,” he said. “WEG’s leadership and reach, combined with our active magnetic bearing expertise and IoT condition monitoring platform, means we can now bring our technology quickly to hundreds of thousands of motor installations.”
The companies said the collaboration positions active magnetic bearing systems as a potential standard for applications where efficiency, sustainability and performance are key considerations.
