Mapei has commenced construction on a $60 million manufacturing facility in Melbourne, aiming to strengthen local supply capabilities for Australia’s growing construction sector.
In a news releas, the company said the new manufacturing plant in Truganina will support growing infrastructure demand while improving the availability of building materials across Victoria.
“Mapei has been actively present in the Australian construction industry for more than 30 years and expanding our footprint into Melbourne marks an important milestone for the business,” Mapei CEOs Veronica Squinzi and Marco Squinzi said in a joint statement.
“With the state’s construction sector focused on delivering high-quality infrastructure for the next generations, we’re proud that our local plant will provide our partners with industry-leading materials at a pivotal time for the sector.”
The facility, scheduled to open in 2026, is expected to supply high-performance construction materials to major projects across metropolitan and regional Victoria, including the Suburban Rail Loop and North East Link.
Mapei said the timing aligns with the state’s broader infrastructure program, which includes more than 180 major road and rail projects planned through to 2051.
Mapei Australia General Manager Marco De Santis said the investment reflects both operational and strategic priorities for the company.
“This new facility is more than just a factory; it reflects Mapei’s commitment to growth and innovation in this market, as well as our long-term focus on supporting Australia’s construction industry,” De Santis said.
“By increasing our local manufacturing capabilities, we aim to enable faster delivery, lower transport emissions, and improved support for the evolving needs of our customers and partners in delivering critical infrastructure projects across the state.”
The company noted that the expansion comes amid broader challenges facing Australia’s construction sector, including supply chain disruptions, material shortages and labour constraints. With the national infrastructure pipeline valued at more than $213 billion, including a significant share in Victoria, demand for reliable material supply remains high.
According to the Victorian government’s 2025–26 State Budget, $8.1 billion has been allocated to new capital investment, underscoring the role of infrastructure in economic growth and urban development.
Mapei said construction of the facility is progressing, with commissioning, recruitment and training activities already underway.
The company described the project as part of its longer-term strategy to expand its presence in Australia while supporting the delivery of major infrastructure projects.
