Orora has marked 50 years of can manufacturing at its Revesby site in south-west Sydney, with a recent investment in a second production line expanding capacity and increasing local employment.

The packaging manufacturer celebrated the milestone on 19 October, with NSW Premier Chris Minns joining Orora Group managing director and chief executive officer Brian Lowe, Orora Cans president Chris Smith, and current and former employees for a site tour.

Opened in 1976, Revesby is one of Orora’s Australian can manufacturing sites, producing aluminium cans for carbonated soft drinks, ready-to-drink beverages, beer and other beverage categories.

The facility operates two can manufacturing lines, including a $114 million multi-size line commissioned in 2025. According to Orora, the investment increased production capacity and expanded the site’s workforce from 44 to 62 full-time employees.

Smith said the anniversary recognised the contribution of workers and the site’s role in Australia’s beverage manufacturing industry.

“Revesby has been an important part of Australia’s industrial and beverage manufacturing story for 50 years,” Smith said.

“Our recent investment in a second multi-size can line at Revesby demonstrates Orora’s confidence in the future of local manufacturing and the long-term growth of aluminium beverage cans.”

Premier Minns said the site had supported local employment and supplied beverage packaging across Australia.

“This anniversary is a chance to recognise the workers who have contributed to that success and to look ahead to the future of manufacturing in south-west Sydney,” Minns said.

The Revesby investment forms part of approximately $364 million in investment across Orora’s Cans business. The company said investments at Dandenong, Revesby, Rocklea and Ballarat since 2023 had increased its total can-making capacity by approximately 33 per cent.

Orora’s FY26 financial results reported a 6.3 per cent increase in Cans business volumes, which the company attributed to capacity expansion, consumer preference for aluminium packaging and growth in emerging beverage categories.

The Revesby site typically operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also has a 100 kW solar installation, with plans to introduce electric forklifts to improve on-site safety and reduce environmental impact.
