Frosty Boy, a soft serve and beverages manufacturer, has been recognised as Queensland’s Exporter of the Year after the company saw impressive international growth.

The iconic manufacturer has doubled its yearly sales to Indonesia and saw a 200 per cent growth in revenue in India, along with a 95 per cent increase in the Middle East over the past two years.

Frosty Boy, which began exporting in 2001, manufactures up to 2 million soft serves on a daily basis at its Yatala factory and caters to more than 65 countries.

Meanwhile, Gungaari woman Charmaine Saunders, founder of the Indigenous fashion brand Mainie, won the inaugural First Nations category.

“Food manufacturers generate $25 billion dollars for our economy each year, and companies like Frosty Boy are leaders in their field, boosting Queensland’s global reputation for quality and excellence,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“Queensland’s leading exporters have been honoured through these awards for more than three decades and it continues to be a wonderful platform to celebrate their resilience, ingenuity and ongoing success.”

Dr Chamindika Konara, general manager of Brisbane-based medical device company Qlicksmart, clinched the Women in International Business Award.

“Queensland businesses are not just competing internationally, they are market leaders because of their exceptional standards, quality of goods and remarkable services,” said Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Cameron Dick.

“These awards recognised the success of Queensland’s best export businesses who dared to dream big and take their products overseas,” the minister added.

A total of 43 Queensland businesses have celebrated the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards. Thirteen companies are slated to advance to the national Australian Export Awards on 30 November.

The Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards wraps up the Queensland Trade and Investment Program, an annual event that showcases the state’s international trading prowess and promotes it as an investment destination.
