Cleanaway Waste Management has announced the completion of its acquisition of Citywide Waste, aiming to expand its operations in inner metropolitan Melbourne.
The acquisition will see Cleanaway integrate approximately 200 new employees, 100 additional fleet vehicles, and the Dynon Road Transfer Station into its existing solid waste services business.
Located five kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, the Dynon Road facility is Victoria’s second-largest waste transfer station.
Tracey Boyes, executive general Manager Solid Waste Services at Cleanaway, said the company was pleased to welcome the new team.
“We’re delighted to officially welcome the Citywide Waste team to Cleanaway,” Boyes said. “Together, we’ll continue delivering essential services to Melbourne’s communities while enhancing resource recovery outcomes across the CBD and surrounding areas.”
Boyes also acknowledged Citywide’s track record in managing waste services in the city. “The Citywide team has built a successful business and brings deep experience in servicing Melbourne’s inner city,” she said.
“Now, as part of Cleanaway, we’re excited to continue serving residents of the City of Melbourne and other major councils, as well as the many commercial and industrial customers who rely on the Dynon Road Transfer Station.”
As part of the integration, Cleanaway is investing $35 million to upgrade the Dynon Road facility. The redevelopment is expected to transform the site into a modern post-collection hub, aligning with the company’s broader strategy to boost resource recovery and support better environmental outcomes.
Cleanaway stated that the upgraded infrastructure will play a key role in supporting Melbourne’s future growth, both economically and in terms of population, while enhancing waste management capabilities in the region.
