Quantum Brilliance has announced the opening of what it describes as the world’s first commercial Quantum Diamond Foundry in Melbourne, a facility the company says will enhance Australia’s advanced manufacturing and quantum technology industries.
According to Quantum Brilliance, the Foundry will produce quantum-grade synthetic diamonds at scale, supporting the development of compact, lightweight, and room-temperature quantum computing and sensing devices for global markets.
“This is a milestone for Australia and for the global quantum community,” said Dr Marcus Doherty CSM, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Quantum Brilliance.
“By opening what we believe to be the world’s first commercial Quantum Diamond Foundry, we are moving quantum out of the lab and into products that can be built, shipped, and used in everyday settings. This is about reliable devices at scale, created in Australia, serving customers worldwide.”
The company said the Foundry builds on its work supplying room-temperature quantum accelerators to supercomputing facilities in Europe, the United States, and Australia.
It also represents a significant step in establishing local quantum manufacturing capacity, supported by investment from the National Reconstruction Fund and Breakthrough Victoria.
David Gall, CEO of the National Reconstruction Fund, said the project demonstrates how local innovation can translate into manufacturing capability.
“Quantum Brilliance is turning world-class research into exportable products via advanced manufacturing that’s happening right here in Australia,” Gall said. “This is the kind of national capability the NRF was created to help deliver.”
According to Quantum Brilliance, diamond quantum technologies make possible devices that are compact, durable, and operational at room temperature.
These features allow for broad deployment across applications such as healthcare diagnostics, neuromedicine, navigation, mineral exploration, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence.
Victorian Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs Danny Pearson said the development reinforces Victoria’s leadership in quantum innovation.
“With what Quantum Brilliance describes as the world’s first commercial quantum diamond foundry, Victoria isn’t just on the map – we’re leading the way and driving the next wave of global innovation,” Pearson said.
Breakthrough Victoria CEO Rod Bristow added that the investment would “accelerate quantum breakthroughs, create highly skilled local jobs, and position our state as a global leader in advanced technology and sovereign manufacturing.”
