Queensland advanced materials company Alpha HPA has secured Australian Made certification across its product range, recognising the Australian manufacturing of its ultra-high purity aluminium materials and synthetic sapphire products.

In a news release, Alpha HPA said it produces high purity aluminas, aluminium hydroxides and aluminium nitrate salts using its Australian-developed Smart SX Technology. It also manufactures synthetic sapphire glass and wafers using its ultra-high purity alumina.

Alpha HPA Managing Director Rob Williamson said the certification recognised the technology, skills and manufacturing capability developed in Australia.

“We have developed the technology here, built the manufacturing capability here and are producing advanced materials in Australia for some of the world’s most technically demanding industries,” Williamson said.

The Australian Made, Australian Grown logo is a registered certification trademark for Australian products and is subject to specified criteria and third-party accreditation.

Williamson said the certification would also provide customers with an independently recognised indication of where the products are manufactured.

“Our customers are also looking for secure and reliable supply chains. The Australian Made logo gives them an independently recognised way to identify our products as Australian manufactured,” he said.

Alpha HPA currently manufactures its ultra-high purity aluminium materials at its Stage One Facility in Gladstone, Queensland.

The company said it is also constructing its HPA First Facility, which it expects to become the world’s largest single-site manufacturing facility for ultra-high purity aluminium materials.

According to Alpha HPA, construction and commissioning of the full-scale facility is expected to generate more than 420 jobs, while a further 120 full-time local roles are expected once the facility is operational.

Williamson said the certification reflected the company’s focus on expanding advanced materials manufacturing in Australia.

“Building sovereign manufacturing capability means developing the technology, skills and facilities to make more high-value products here in Australia,” he said.
