US-based materials science manufacturer Arclin is investing millions of dollars to expand Nomex® paper production in Spain, aiming to meet growing demand from aerospace, electrical infrastructure, electric vehicle and defence industries.
The investment will add production capabilities at Arclin’s Asturias facility, with construction expected to be completed by the end of 2027 and full commissioning planned for early 2028.
Nomex® is a heat-resistant material used in applications such as aircraft, electric vehicles, power generation and electricity grid infrastructure.
According to Arclin, the Asturias facility has been part of its Nomex® manufacturing network since 1993. Following the expansion, it will become one of four facilities producing Nomex® paper globally.
Arclin acquired the Nomex® business in April 2026 and said it has since focused on expanding production capacity and improving reliability to meet customer demand. The company reported record Nomex® paper volumes in 2026 and expects supply to continue growing in 2027.
“When we bought the Nomex® business, we committed to investing in its future,” said Bradley Bolduc, chief executive officer of Arclin.
“Expanding production in Asturias will strengthen our global manufacturing network and help ensure we can continue supporting customers as demand grows across aerospace, electrical infrastructure, defense, and transportation markets.”
Arclin president Mark Glaspey said the company was also advancing technology and developing new specifications to address changing customer requirements and support new applications.
The company, headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, operates offices and manufacturing facilities across North and South America, Europe and Asia, serving customers in multiple industrial sectors.
