A new South Australian manufacturing partnership has been confirmed in the Australian Army’s LAND 400 Phase 3 program, with REDARC Defence & Space Pty Ltd set to deliver essential components for the Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle.

According to REDARC Defence & Space, the manufacturing work will be carried out at its Lonsdale, South Australia facility, where the company will produce complex electrical and control system components forming what it describes as the “electronic nervous system” of the Redback IFV.

These systems will support power distribution, signal routing, mobility, communications management and overall vehicle operation, REDARC said in a news release.

REDARC Defence & Space Executive General Manager Scott Begbie said the work reflects local capability in advanced defence manufacturing. “We are incredibly proud to partner with Hanwha Defence Australia on the LAND 400 Phase 3 project.

Manufacturing these highly complex power and control units right here in South Australia is a testament to the skill and capability of our local workforce,” Begbie said. “This collaboration not only supports the Australian Army with world-class technology but also strengthens our sovereign industrial base.”

The Redback IFV is being developed by Hanwha Defence Australia as part of the Australian Army’s armoured vehicle modernisation, designed to operate alongside the Abrams fleet within the Combined Arms Fighting System. The platform is intended to enhance protection, mobility and firepower for deployed forces.

Hanwha Defence Australia and UK/Europe Chief Executive Officer Ben Hudson said the partnership reflects the company’s approach to local industry involvement. “Partnering with highly capable Australian businesses like REDARC Defence & Space is a cornerstone of our strategy to deliver the Redback IFV,” Hudson said.

“REDARC’s proven track record in ruggedised, high-quality electronic manufacturing makes them an ideal partner to ensure the Australian Army receives the best possible equipment, built and supported locally.”

South Australian Minister for Defence and Space Industries Chris Picton also highlighted the broader economic and industrial significance of the project.

“South Australia’s highly skilled defence industry has a strong reputation for providing critical support to the Australian Defence Force,” Picton said. “This partnership between REDARC and Hanwha is another example of our local industry contributing to national Defence priorities while creating high-value jobs for South Australians.”

REDARC Defence & Space said the components will be built, tested and supported locally.
