The Australian Industry and Defence Network reported that Australian-owned defence prime NIOA has welcomed the Australian Government’s updated National Defence Strategy (NDS) and Integrated Investment Program (IIP) released by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles.
NIOA Group CEO Robert Nioa said the announcement reinforces the Government’s commitment to equipping the Australian Defence Force with critical capabilities while strengthening sovereign defence manufacturing.
“[The] announcement is another endorsement of a future made in Australia and continues to deliver on the Government’s commitment to providing the Australian Defence Force with the capabilities it needs to safeguard our national interests while contributing to global security,” Nioa said.
He said the strategy’s focus on long-range strike capabilities, missile defence, autonomous and uncrewed systems, and counter-drone capabilities reflects the changing nature of modern warfare.
“The lessons of Ukraine and the Middle East suggest we need to accelerate our work in this area quickly,” he said.
Nioa added that domestic production of solid rocket motors and critical missile components will be vital to ensuring defence readiness and giving industry the confidence to invest.
According to Australian Industry and Defence Network, NIOA’s partnerships with L3Harris and Innovaero, along with its tenancy at the government-owned munitions facility in Benalla, support the company’s commitment to helping deliver the Government’s defence priorities.
