Ampcontrol, a provider of electrical and electronic solutions, announced a landmark Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to link the electricity used by its New South Wales (NSW) sites with renewable sources.

This initiative aims to offset operating emissions and bolster the renewable energy industry, the company said in a media release.

The 10-year agreement, forged with progressive energy provider Flow Power, marks a significant stride towards Ampcontrol’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Initially, the company will source GreenPower certified electricity, supplemented by large scale generation certifications (LGCs) from the Karadoc Solar Farm in north-western Victoria for the first 18 months.

Rod Henderson, managing director & CEO of Ampcontrol, emphasised the company’s dedication to leading the global energy revolution.

“Through changes made to our operational emissions, Ampcontrol can walk the talk in reducing our environmental impact and making more sustainable business decisions,” Henderson stated.

For the subsequent eight-and-a-half years, Ampcontrol will procure generation from both wind and solar farms in NSW, aligning closely with its consumption profile.

This strategy ensures comprehensive renewable coverage, with the combined projects expected to fulfil 100 per cent of Ampcontrol’s energy requirements annually.

The initiative stems from Ampcontrol’s collaboration with other Hunter-based organisations, facilitated by its participation in the NSW Government Sustainability Advantage program.

This initiative enables companies with similar net zero ambitions to pool their power usage and negotiate renewable power purchase agreements (PPAs) with renewable generators, fostering procurement efficiencies and economies of scale.

Sam Parris, Ampcontrol Sustainability manager, lauded the collaborative effort, stating, “This is a significant milestone on our net zero journey and is a great example of collaborating for impact. By joining other organisations, we are able to invest in the renewable energy industry right here in the Hunter.”

Through this long-term renewable Power Purchase Agreement, Ampcontrol not only supports the renewable energy industry but also spearheads efforts to reduce emissions from manufacturing and industry decarbonisation.

Jacob Mahoney, chief revenue officer at Flow Power, commended the partnership, highlighting its role in advancing Australia’s renewable energy targets and grid stability.

“Flow Power is proud to be partnering with Ampcontrol as they take this exciting step towards achieving their Net Zero goals,” Mahoney remarked.
