Australian eucalyptus products company Bosisto’s has launched a new purpose-built eucalyptus oil distillery near Wedderburn, with the company saying the investment will strengthen local manufacturing capability and expand Australian-made production capacity.

According to Bosisto’s, the more than $10 million facility is expected to increase eucalyptus oil production capacity by more than 300 per cent and support the long-term supply of Australian-made natural products.

The project was officially launched with representatives from the Victorian Government, Loddon Shire Council, customers, suppliers and members of the local community attending the event.

Bosisto’s said the distillery was designed to support sustainable manufacturing practices, featuring an off-grid hybrid power system powered by more than 2,000 solar panels and battery storage, rainwater capture and reuse systems, and a waste-to-fuel process using leaf biomass to power the steam boiler.

The company said surplus biomass would either be converted into Bosisto’s EucaMulch product or returned to plantations to improve soil health.

It also stated that the Blue Mallee eucalyptus species used in production naturally regrows after harvesting without needing replanting, while no pesticides or fertilisers are used during cultivation.

Henry Minson, chief executive officer of FGB, said the project represented a significant milestone for the family-owned business.

“This is an exciting day in the history of Bosisto’s. As an Australian, family-owned business, we’re incredibly proud to make this investment to strengthen production capabilities for Australian eucalyptus oil and provide a platform for sustainable growth,” Minson said.

“We have been drawing on the natural qualities of eucalyptus oil since 1852. It’s incredibly versatile, from being a powerful antiseptic to a wonderful cleaner with a refreshing aroma people love. We’re proud to produce this amazing product in Australia.”

Bosisto’s said the project would create seven new permanent jobs, including five direct on-site roles, while also supporting regional suppliers and contributing to the Victorian manufacturing supply chain.

The development received support from the Victorian Government through the Made in Victoria – Manufacturing Growth Program.

Michaela Settle said the investment would help strengthen regional production.

“Bosisto’s is a long-running success story for regional Victoria, and I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to support the next chapter, which will see a boost to regional production,” Settle said.

“Our regions have all the ingredients for businesses to invest and grow, which is great for jobs, great for local economies and great for communities.”

Martha Haylett said the project highlighted the role of regional Victoria in Australian manufacturing.

“Regional Victoria has the skills to power Australian manufacturing, and Bosisto’s new distillery is a fantastic example of that in action,” Haylett said.

“This investment means more opportunities for local suppliers and a stronger future for the local economy.”

Dan Straub said the investment would deliver broader economic benefits to the region.

“Bosisto’s have been a part of our strong local community for many decades and this investment is a vote of confidence in our region, bringing advanced manufacturing technology, new jobs and indirect economic activity for local businesses and suppliers,” Straub said.
