Daimler Truck announced its collaboration with global logistics powerhouse DB Schenker to manage its latest warehouse venture in Melbourne.

The facility spanning 20,000 square metres is poised to revolutionise the distribution of over 44,000 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) encompassing truck and bus parts, DB Schenker said in a news release.

Situated approximately 23 kilometres from the heart of Melbourne and 20 kilometres from Tullamarine Airport, the new warehouse is set to bolster Daimler Truck’s stock and parts distribution network across Australia and New Zealand.

Craig Davison, the CEO of DB Schenker Australia and New Zealand Cluster, conveyed his excitement regarding the innovative project, highlighting that the warehouse represents a pioneering initiative within the Daimler Truck framework.

He noted that it stands out globally as the first facility of its kind to house parts for three separate truck brands in a unified location.

“Daimler Truck Australia Pacific offers a vast range of class-leading vehicles covering every segment of the Australian road freight industry with its Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, and Fuso trucks, as well as Fuso buses,” Davison added.

“We were delighted to build on our long-term and productive relationship with Daimler Truck with the contract to operate this new warehouse,” he noted.

In particular, the facility is equipped with over 70,000 individual storage locations, including a 4,000 square metre mezzanine level, and specialised racking tailored to accommodate sizable truck cabs.

The warehouse also boasts a high clearance section with pallet storage exceeding 10 metres in height.

In addition to warehouse operations, DB Schenker oversees the leasing arrangements for the premises located in Melbourne’s West.

Davison emphasised the flexibility embedded within the warehouse operations to accommodate evolving requirements, ensuring optimal performance even during peak demand periods.

Meanwhile, Daniel Whitehead, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Australia Pacific, hailed the inauguration of the new warehouse as a significant milestone for the company.

“This new dedicated truck and bus parts warehouse is at the centre of our commitment to our customers across Australia. I would like to thank DB Schenker for working with us to introduce this sustainable state-of-the-art facility that will allow us to better serve our customers and meet their specific needs,” he remarked.
