Hypersonix Launch Systems Ltd, Australia’s premier aerospace engineering and design firm, has named former Australian Ambassador to the United States, Arthur Sinodinos, as the new chair of the Board, effective 18 March 2024.

With an illustrious career spanning diplomacy, government service, and international relations, Arthur Sinodinos brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

He currently serves as co-chair of the AUKUS Forum, a distinguished group fostering the trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

His previous positions include Australia’s ambassador to the United States, Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Senator in the Australian Government, and chief of staff to former Prime Minister, John Howard.

The appointment of Sinodinos underscores Hypersonix’s commitment to leveraging top-tier talent to navigate the complexities of the global aerospace and satellite launch markets, the company said in a media release.

His extensive experience in both industry and government uniquely positions him to guide the company through its next phase of growth.

“It is a privilege to take on the role of Chair of the Board with Hypersonix and I would like to thank David for his stewardship through the early stages of the company,” stated Arthur Sinodinos.

“When I first learned about Hypersonix in 2022, I was amazed by the access-to-space technology and ‘green-fueled’ launch vehicles that they were developing. There is a critical need for hypersonic technology in defence, and an equally significant potential for commercial applications,” he stated.

Sinodinos affirmed his commitment to guiding and supporting the leadership team to maximise growth potential and bring products to market.

David Waterhouse, the outgoing chair and co-founder of Hypersonix, will transition to the role of deputy chair.

His visionary leadership was instrumental in establishing the company’s presence in the US Defense market and securing contracts with the Defense Innovation Unit.

“I’m excited to see the heights Arthur’s extensive experience will help us reach and I look forward to continue my work with Arthur and my fellow board members as we embark on the next chapter for the company,” remarked Waterhouse.

Matt Hill, CEO of Hypersonix, expressed enthusiasm about the addition of Arthur Sinodinos to the board.

“Arthur brings a wealth of knowledge to Hypersonix, and the executive team is very excited to draw on his experience and extensive insight into government, defence, and industry,” stated Hill.

He continued, “Arthur’s time as Ambassador to the United States will be invaluable to inform and guide our global growth strategy. We have big plans, commencing with the upcoming first flight of our DART hypersonic flyer with US Defense Innovation Unit.”
