WA Welding Excellence Awards highlight leadership across manufacturing sector

Welding professionals, educators and manufacturers gathered in Perth as Weld Australia announced the winners of its 2025 Western Australia Welding Excellence Awards, recognising leadership and innovation across the state’s fabrication and manufacturing sectors.

According to Weld Australia, the annual awards highlight the people, projects and organisations driving safety, technical capability and industry development.

The organisation said this year’s winners demonstrated strong performance in areas such as automation, education, quality assurance and workforce training.

Weld Australia CEO Geoff Crittenden said the awards reflect the high standards of Western Australia’s welding community.

“Our WA winners represent the cutting edge of Australian industry. They’re delivering world-class outcomes, embedding safety and quality into every process, and investing in the skills that will define the next generation of trades and technicians,” Crittenden said.

“The innovation, collaboration and professionalism on display this year highlight a state that’s not just keeping pace with change, it’s leading it.”

Weld Australia named Bossong Engineering as Company of the Year – Fabrication. The family-owned business, established in 1988, provides heavy fabrication, welding and machining services across the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors.

WPF Duratec received the Project of the Year Award for its work on Santos’ Darwin Pipeline Duplication.

Weld Australia said the project involved fabricating and installing more than 250 tonnes of pipe spooling and 50 tonnes of structural steel under an accelerated schedule, supported by robotic welding, dual-site operations and strict quality control measures.

The Health and Safety in Welding Award went to Lighthouse Engineering for its workplace safety programs and early adoption of advanced fume ventilation systems. OneGas was named Company of the Year – Supplier for its growth as a no-rent gas supplier and its investments in technology, sustainability and regional training.

Weld Australia recognised North Metropolitan TAFE with the Training and Education Award – Organisation for its delivery of advanced fabrication training incorporating CNC systems, cobotic welding and augmented reality simulators.

In the individual categories, Andrew Cain from Callidus Welding Solutions was named Welding Professional of the Year – Welding Coordinator, while Aerison’s Paul Thariyan was awarded in the Welding Inspector category.

Weld Australia said both winners were recognised for their technical expertise, industry qualifications and commitment to mentoring.

Bossong Engineering’s Kyle Gourlay and Callidus Welding Solutions’ Matthew Rowbottom were named joint Young Trades Person of the Year.

Austal Ships’ Huspicio Villamor received Trades Person of the Year, recognised for his precision and contribution to automated welding practices.

North Metropolitan TAFE’s Allan Albrey was awarded the Training and Education – Individual Teacher Award for more than 40 years in vocational training. Monadelphous’ Lee Oakley received the Mick Cudmore Award for his long-standing contribution to welding engineering and standards development.
