Queensland’s manufacturing sector will take centre stage in September, with a statewide program featuring advanced technologies, industry capabilities and career opportunities, according to the Queensland Government.
Queensland Manufacturing Month will include Inside Advanced Manufacturing from 1 to 11 September, with businesses from Warwick to Townsville opening their facilities to demonstrate advanced manufacturing processes, robotics and other technologies.
In a news release, the Queensland Government said manufacturing supports nearly 170,000 jobs and contributes about $29 billion to the state’s economy each year.
Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last said the month would highlight the capabilities of Queensland manufacturers and the government’s efforts to support the sector.
“This year has really been all about showcasing what our mighty manufacturers can do, from hosting Australian Manufacturing Week for the first time, through to Queensland Manufacturing Month,” Last said.
“Whatever you can think of, Queensland makes it – from defence rocket manufacturers to medical equipment suppliers and food and beverage products.”
The program will also provide opportunities for tertiary students and educators to explore manufacturing careers, while regional events will focus on women working in the industry.
Queensland Manufacturing Hubs will host networking events across the state, bringing manufacturers together to exchange information and learn about programs and incentives available to support business growth.
Last said the government was seeking to strengthen the sector through its Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Strategy.
“We’ve just awarded nearly $12.5 million in Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Grants to 18 companies across the state to grow, innovate and boost their capabilities,” he said.
The government has also expanded Queensland’s Manufacturing Hubs to Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast and Maryborough.
ARM Hub founder and CEO Professor Cori Stewart said the month provided an opportunity to recognise both the sector’s capabilities and its workforce.
“Manufacturing Month is an opportunity to showcase the strength and depth of Queensland’s industrial capability – and celebrate our manufacturers turning innovation and expertise into great businesses,” Stewart said.
She said greater connections between industry, research, skills, investment and technology could help Queensland manufacturers develop ideas into commercial production.
“The greatest opportunity for Queensland manufacturing lies in connecting industry with research, skills, investment and technology – accelerating great Queensland ideas from concept to commercial production,” Stewart said.
The Queensland Government said the month’s events would be held across the state, with further information available through its events program.
