Energy Renaissance to build a battery manufacturing plant in Darwin

Energy Renaissance has confirmed speculations that it intends to build a new lithium ion battery manufacturing plant in Australia.

Dubbed ‘Renaissance One’, the new factory will be based in Darwin in the Northern Territory and will have seven production lines with an annual production capacity of 1GWh.

Energy Renaissance said the facility will use Australian raw materials, adding that ‘some oversees processing may initially be needed’.

The plant will manufacture high performance lithium ion batteries with unique properties, with a focus on serving the Australian and South-East Asian markets.

The company, whose technology is licensed from ‘a worldwide leader’ in lithium ion technology, said its energy storage systems will be designed for the commercial and utility-scale markets, with the first cells to come off the factory line by late 2018.
