A new Australian Tenders notice has outlined a manufacturing-focused national project aimed at assessing Australia’s long-term food production capability and identifying future needs across the sector through to 2050, according to Australian Tenders.

The tender, titled Australia’s Food Manufacturing Capability & Future Needs Project (Tender ID: 615584), is being advertised on Australian Tenders and is open for submissions, with a closing date of 15 June 2026.

According to details published by Australian Tenders, the project will undertake a national assessment of the food manufacturing sector’s current capability and capacity. It will examine the structure of the industry, key areas of activity, and existing strengths, as well as pressures influencing its ongoing development.

Australian Tenders states the work will also consider future-focused scenarios extending to 2050, incorporating demographic, environmental, and supply chain factors that may influence demand and production requirements within food manufacturing.

The tender outlines that the assessment will seek to identify capability gaps across the sector and consider how factors such as technology adoption, workforce skills, innovation, and supply chain changes may shape future manufacturing requirements.

It also notes that the project will review the role of skills and training systems in supporting the food manufacturing sector, alongside broader industry capability needs, as part of a wider analysis of potential development pathways.

According to Australian Tenders, the findings are intended to provide a consolidated evidence base to support planning and decision-making by relevant stakeholders, including industry and government, in relation to the future of food manufacturing in Australia.

It noted that food manufacturing is identified in broader national policy settings as a key area within Australia’s manufacturing landscape, reflecting its importance to domestic supply chains, economic activity, and export performance.

The tender remains open for submissions until 15 June 2026, as listed on Australian Tenders.
