AML3D Limited has announced the appointment of Frederick J. Stefany, a former senior official in the US Department of the Navy, to the board of its US subsidiary, AML3D USA Inc.
The move is seen as a significant step in the company’s strategy to deepen its role in the US defence manufacturing sector, particularly in support of the Navy’s shipbuilding and munitions programs, as revealed in an ASX announcement.
Stefany brings over 40 years of experience across US Navy and Marine Corps research, development, acquisition, and sustainment programs.
Most recently, he served as the first Program Manager of the US Navy’s Maritime Industrial Base from July 2024 to February 2025, following a career that included senior leadership roles such as acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition.
In that role, he managed a US$130 billion annual budget and led more than 55,000 acquisition personnel.
AML3D highlighted Stefany’s involvement in major naval programs, including executive oversight of the Columbia and Virginia submarine initiatives, shipbuilding modernization, and surface ship combat systems.
His contributions to the US Navy have earned him numerous accolades, including the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service and the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award.
AML3D Managing Director Sean Ebert said Stefany’s appointment is a strong endorsement of the company’s additive manufacturing technology and its role in supporting US naval programs.
“Accessing multiple layers of the US Navy’s Marine Industrial Base is central to AML3D’s growth strategy in the US,” Ebert said.
“Frederick’s extensive experience across many US Department of the Navy programs will be invaluable in accelerating our growth within the US defence sector.”
Stefany expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “After 43 years of deeply fulfilling service, I was happy to retire from the US Department of the Navy earlier this year. This decision created an opportunity to join the Board of AML3D USA and I am proud to be able to continue to support the great work being done to enhance the US Navy’s capabilities.”
AML3D USA President Pete Goumas, who has also been appointed to the board as Executive Director, welcomed Stefany’s appointment, saying, “Frederick’s career to the highest echelons of the US Department of the Navy is simply awe inspiring. I am excited to learn from him, work with him and be guided by him.”
