Magnis Energy nears completion of iM3NY-produced lithium battery certification

Battery manufacturing company Magnis Energy Technologies announced it has completed six out of the seven relevant tests for UN38.3 certification, with 1 result now pending, for cells produced by its subsidiary, Imperium3 New York (iM3NY).

The ASX-listed company said the final test (T8) has commenced and is expected to conclude after a seven-day observation period. 

An official report regarding compliance with UN 38.3 certification is then expected within two weeks, the company revealed in a media release.

UN38.3 is a United Nations standard that lithium batteries must meet to achieve certification for safe transport in large quantities, be it by air, sea, rail or road.

Magnis also reported that the thermal test, which was non-compliant in earlier testing) has now been passed.

iM3NY’s achievement of the certification also means it meets the standards required by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the United States Department of Transportation (DOT).

According to Magnis, manufacturers of lithium batteries and products using lithium cells must demonstrate compliance in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of their products.

Moreover, the UN38.3 certification process consists of an array of tests designed to imitate the conditions that the cells may face during transportation.

Magnis Energy Technologies is a vertically integrated lithium-ion battery technology and materials company in the lithium-ion battery supply chain.

The company’s US-based subsidiary iM3NY operates a Gigawatt scale Lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in Endicott, New York. 

Magnis together with its US-based technology partner, C4V LLC has produced high-performance active anode materials for lithium-ion batteries utilising Magnis’ high-purity graphite feedstock from their Nachu Graphite project in Tanzania.
