Gold Gourmet Foods, a food manufacturer based in the Gold Coast, is set to expand its operations and workforce following a substantial investment from the Queensland Government.

The infusion of $210,000 through the Manufacturing Hubs Grant Program will catalyse the company’s growth, enabling it to automate its sauce and mayonnaise production lines, the government said in a media release.

This strategic move not only enhances operational efficiency but also unlocks opportunities for job creation and market expansion.

The family-owned business specialises in producing gourmet sauces, mayonnaise, and dressing products distributed to various retail outlets, including IGA, Spar, and Foodworks.

With the aim of bolstering production capacity and ensuring product quality, the grant will facilitate the adoption of automation technology, making the manufacturing process safer and more efficient.

The investment is projected to create four new full-time positions within the company, providing employment opportunities and driving economic growth in the region.

Moreover, the enhanced production capability will enable Gold Gourmet Foods to meet the escalating demand for its products, both domestically and internationally.

According to recent statistics, the food manufacturing sector constitutes a significant portion of Queensland’s manufacturing industry, employing over 39,000 individuals and contributing approximately $5.5 billion to the state’s economy in 2023.

With manufactured food products accounting for nearly 40 per cent of Queensland’s manufacturing exports, the sector plays a pivotal role in driving export revenues and fostering economic resilience.

Minister for Manufacturing Glenn Butcher expressed his satisfaction with the progress of Gold Gourmet Foods, highlighting the significance of the additional support provided by the government.

“The Manufacturing Hubs network has been a stunning success for the manufacturing industry. It’s great to see first-hand the value of the relationship between Hub staff and local manufacturers.”

He noted that the funding, totaling over $210,000, would enable the family-owned business to expand its operations and workforce, particularly in scaling up the production of sauces and mayonnaise products to meet rising demand both locally and internationally.

Meanwhile, Gold Gourmet Food co-founder Mitchell Peers expressed gratitude for the funding, acknowledging its importance in propelling the company to the next level.

Peers highlighted the potential benefits of the investment, including the creation of more jobs, reduced production costs, and increased output, which would enhance the company’s competitiveness on a global scale.

He concluded, “We’ve been operating since the ‘80s – now we can futureproof our business for years to come!”

The Manufacturing Hubs Grant Program, under the stewardship of the Miles Government, has emerged as a cornerstone initiative supporting Queensland’s manufacturing sector.

Since its inception, the program has empowered 59 businesses across the state, creating over 230 direct jobs and stimulating economic activity.

Complementing this effort, the Made in Queensland Grants Program and the establishment of manufacturing hubs have further catalysed industry growth, providing targeted support to businesses seeking to innovate and expand.
